According to a recent report by IMI/Garage Industry Trends, tyre safety appears to be the biggest concern in relation to the proposed MOT test extension plans by the government.
The report shows that EV tyres tend to experience more wear than traditional fuel vehicles, and that extending the date for MOT renewals significantly increases road user risk. The extended MOT testing plans are a government response to help consumers save money with the cost of living crisis in the UK.
Department for Transport data shows 46% of all failure items for electric vehicles are related to tyres, compared to 32% for petrol and diesel vehicles.
Many motorists are likely to believe that they can wait for their next MOT test to detect any defects or issues with tyres. If the next MOT is extended, this may be a serious concern for road safety.
If you have any concerns about the condition of your tyres before your next MOT test is due, you are welcome to come along to the our MOT Testing Centre in Neath Port Talbot and let us check and advise you.
